Update: Version 0.3
Version 0.3 introduces a save/load feature and a new game mode! Along with some new pets and other big changes. Lets get straight into them:
Save/Load feature: You can now save your game whenever you are not being attacked by aliens! This feature took me a really long time to learn, create and bug fix. I am so happy I finally got it done! Enjoy being able to actually save your progress now.
New game mode: "Frenzy" mode. Frenzy is an alternative game mode in which you face endless waves of alien attacks! You start with 5 fish and a fully upgraded laser pistol BUT you cannot access the shop or purchase more fish... Try to survive as long as you can!
New pets: I've added 4 new pets to help out in the tank. Auto-feeder - helps feed your fish. Tombstonefish - revives fish that have died. Attack-bot - shoots aliens for you. Amalgafin - Creates fish periodically for free.
Target practice: Added a target practice area in the lab. Shoot 10 targets as fast as possible. Available to use whenever you need.
Weapon changes: Guns will now reload slightly faster but when overheating they cannot be fired again until fully reloaded. Cannot switch guns when overheated. Also there is no more random spread as I felt it was unnecessary given the small size of the tank. These changes should make the guns feel better to use whilst also being slightly more rewarding for not overheating.
Tutorial changes: The tutorial is now separate allowing the player to skip it if they want (Also allows me to easily expand the tutorial as I add new mechanics).
Main menu and pause menu changes: These menus have been updated to make them easier to navigate and reflect the new additions/changes to the game.
Those are the biggest changes in this update but many more were also made, which you can read about ahead. These include updates to the fish, food, aliens and cost of some items, all of which should make the game a little bit less stressful. The full list of noteworthy changes and bug fixes are here:
Changes:
Big:
- Added a new game mode.

Medium:
- Redesigned pause menu.
- Redesigned main menu.
- Adjusted the rarity for some aliens and further adjusted spawn rates for some aliens. Also reworked alien portals to be more efficient.
- Adjusted health and speed of most aliens. Also slightly adjusted ai.
- Adjusted hunger and starvation times for fish (fish can stay hungry for longer before needing to be fed).
- Adjusted food falling speed to be slightly slower so fish have more time to eat it before it disappears.
- Adjusted shop prices for weapon upgrades.
- Improved visuals and feedback for player when shooting bomber alien (can no longer be shot at when at zero health/exploding, bombs light up before explosion).
- Improved fish ai when searching for food.
Small:
- Added quit to main menu and quit game buttons.
- Added sound to most ui buttons.
- Changed a large amount of code and variables to be more efficient for save files and also reduce clutter/file size.
- Reworked both weapons code to be more efficient.
- Removed bonus shell as I feel like it's use is too awkward (not picked up by orb-zorber, makes ghost pointless) and not needed as I've changed a lot to make the game flow better.
- Added extra eyes to some aliens to tell them apart easier. (I'll still be giving the aliens proper models eventually lol.)
- Adjusted some gun stats.
Bug fixes:
- Lighting between hallway and lab is slightly different.
- Tutorial alien stops moving after eating fish. (tutorial alien now CANNOT eat fish)
- Fish try to eat food from slightly above current position.
- Worm can double hit/eat player.
- Explosion (from bomber aliens) can double hit player.
- Tracking for "missions progress" does not work properly.
- Missions don't update correctly if completed when the shop is still open.
- Clicking on a mission a second time makes it not disappear when selecting a new one.
This was a big update and it took me a while to learn everything new I was adding. At one point I broke almost everything and had to rebuild so much lol. Totally worth it though! :)
